Metallic Epoxy Floors in San Marino

Metallic epoxy is a poured resin floor with mica pigment suspended in the clear coat, so the surface reads as depth rather than as a single solid color. In San Marino it goes into interior rooms far more often than it goes into a garage: entry halls, wine rooms, gyms and studios, where a seamless floor is the whole point.

Entry Halls, Wine Rooms and Home Gyms

An entry hall is the room this finish suits best. It is seamless, it picks up the light from a fanlight or a stairwell window, and it has no grout line to keep clean under traffic that never really stops. Because the floor is poured rather than laid, it runs to the wall line and around a curved stair without a cut edge or a transition strip anywhere in it.

Wine rooms are the other frequent one. The surface is impervious, so a broken bottle wipes up instead of soaking in, and the resin is untroubled by the humidity these rooms are held at. Home gyms and studios take it for a different reason: it is hard enough for rack feet and dropped plates, and a mat lies flush on it rather than rucking the way it does over tile.

Gloss Level and How Much Reflection You Want

The metallic layer sets the pattern, but the clear coats over it decide how the room actually reads. A full gloss throws back every light source and makes a space feel larger and more formal. A satin clear keeps the depth of the pigment while cutting the mirror effect, which is usually the better answer in a room with a lot of glazing or a view worth looking at instead of the floor.

Gloss also decides what you notice day to day. A high-gloss floor shows dust and footprints between cleans, and it shows fine scratching sooner because it reflects a sharper line. In a formal room that gets cleaned often that trade is worth making. In a gym, a studio or a family entrance, satin almost always wears better.

Keeping a Poured Floor Looking New

Day to day it is a dust mop and a neutral cleaner. Nothing abrasive, and nothing with a wax in it, because wax builds a haze that has to be stripped off again before the floor can ever be recoated. Felt pads under furniture do more for the finish than any product on a shelf.

The clear topcoat is a sacrificial layer, and that is exactly why it is built in coats. A floor that has dulled or picked up fine scratching over some years can be screened back and given a fresh clear coat in a day, without disturbing the metallic layer underneath. We install the same system in salons, studios and small commercial rooms that see many times the traffic of a home entry, and they recoat the same way. It is a very different proposition from lifting a tiled or a stone floor.

Serving San Marino and the San Gabriel Valley

Rise Coatings installs metallic epoxy throughout San Marino, from the streets around Lacy Park and the Huntington across to Huntington Drive and the eastern edge of the city. Interior work is quoted room by room, and we agree the access route and where the furniture goes before anything is mixed. See our work in Arcadia, Pasadena, Glendora, West Covina and Glendale.

Tell us the room, its square footage and what is on the floor now, and we will come and look at it. The estimate names the pigment, the gloss level and the number of clear coats, so nothing is left open to interpretation.
