Why the Slabs Here Need It
Much of Huntington Beach was built out in the 1960s and 1970s, and slabs from that era were poured to a tolerance nobody would accept today. Add fifty years of minor settlement and a living room that looks fine to the eye can be out by half an inch or more corner to corner. Most people discover it the day new flooring goes down and the planks start to rock.
The older beach bungalows have their own version of the problem. Additions and enclosed patios were frequently poured at a different time and a different height than the original slab, so the floor steps or ramps where the two meet. Self-leveling handles both cases, but they are not the same repair: a gradual dish takes a thin skim, while a step between two pours needs a feathered edge and sometimes a bonded ramp.
