When the Garage Is Part of the House
Not every garage needs this. If yours is where the bins live and the door stays shut, a hard wearing floor in a plain finish will serve you better and cost less. The case for metallic is different. It is for the garage that gets opened on purpose, where a car is parked to be looked at, or where the room has been finished out and people actually spend time in it. There are a lot of those here, because so much of the housing is newer, master planned, and built with garages big enough to be worth the trouble.
The practical difference is that a floor being looked at has to be right across the whole slab, not just underfoot. Edges, the line where the floor meets the door, and any place the concrete was cut or patched will all read through a finish once it is down. So a garage floor coating in a shown garage takes more care than the same floor in a working one. It is the same install. There is just nowhere for a shortcut to hide.
